Summer Institute
The Summer Institute is a dynamic and immersive nine-day program in July where we invite our Global Gap Fellows to stay on-campus and prepare for their upcoming transformative year abroad. Hosted at the Campus Y, the Summer Institute combines engaging workshops, interactive sessions, and hands-on activities to equip fellows with the tools, knowledge, and confidence to navigate their gap year experiences effectively. Fellows also receive mentorship and guidance in selecting their volunteer placements, with most students securing their placements by the end of the institute.
What to Expect:
- Foundational Workshops: Learn about ethical service, cross-cultural communication, and strategies for building resilience in new environments.
- Skill Development: Gain practical skills in budgeting, travel logistics, and navigating unfamiliar cultural contexts.
- Expert Speakers: Engage with inspiring guest speakers, including former fellows, international educators, faculty/staff members, and global leaders, who share their experiences and insights.
- Team Collaboration: Participate in group projects and interactive exercises that foster teamwork and problem-solving skills.
- Community Building: Connect with fellow gappers, forming a supportive network of peers who will share the journey ahead.
- Reflection and Growth: Explore personal values, goals, and aspirations through guided reflection sessions designed to deepen your understanding of the impact you can make during your gap year.
The Summer Institute is more than just an orientation—it’s the first step in your global journey. By the end of the program, you’ll feel prepared and inspired to step into the world as a confident, compassionate, and capable global citizen.
Let the Summer Institute be your launching pad to a year of discovery, growth, and impact!
