Maya Resnick was born and raised in Chicago IL. She recently graduated from the School of Inquiry and Life Sciences at Asheville (SILSA). During her time in high school, Maya was on the swim team, competed in culinary competitions, supported and led multiple tutoring organizations, and worked at a local restaurant. Maya’s passion for educational equity drives her every step. As part of her gap year, she will begin by working as an organizer on the Harris-Walz campaign this fall, channeling her commitment to social justice. From there, Maya will embark on an adventure that takes her to Cusco, Peru, where she’ll volunteer at a public school, then head to Tanzania for the challenge of a lifetime—summiting Mount Kilimanjaro! After that, Maya will travel to Southeast Asia where she plans to immerse herself in the culture by working on a tea farm or supporting a local school. Maya will continue her academic journey at UNC, pursuing a degree in Political Science and Public Policy with a minor in Education. She feels deeply honored and inspired to be part of GGYF and is excited to continue her connection with the Campus Y upon her return.
Fun fact: Maya can do a handstand on a paddle board.
