Emma’s family is originally from Quebec, but she grew up in North Carolina and attended Page High School in Greensboro. During her time at Page, Emma was actively involved in women’s soccer, the French Club, and NJROTC. In NJROTC, Emma held several leadership positions, including Drill Team Captain, Supply Chief, Public Affairs Officer, Commanding Officer, and Assistant Naval Science Instructor. Her commitment to service extended beyond ROTC through projects with the American Legion, Wreaths Across America, Re4Him, and the Piedmont Land Conservancy.
Emma is passionate about animal welfare and environmental conservation. During her gap year, she plans to work with animal conservation organizations and alongside National Park officials to explore her interests in environmental conservancy. She is currently working with the Katelios Group for the Research and Protection of Marine and Terrestrial Life in Greece.
When Emma returns to UNC, she will study Biology, hoping her gap year and experiences with the Global Gap Year Fellowship will deepen her understanding of the natural world.
Fun fact: Emma can play three instruments, clarinet, alto-saxophone, and piano.
