They say that New York is the city that never sleeps. The flashing lights and the clever advertisements all create a clever facade that seems to tell the story of a more interesting life that everyone dreams of. New York is an amazing city. But it has nothing on Barcelona.
Barcelona should be the city that everyone dreams of seeing. The food, drinks, and entertainment are like no other place in the world. Throughout every alley way and every corner of the city, there is something new to see. Proof of this can be found not 10 feet from the apartment where I am staying.
Across the street there is a bar that reads 23 in bright flashing white lights. Upon entry this bar seems to be like any bar that one would come across in the United States. It’s dimly lit and three old men are sitting at the bar, staring into an empty bottle. The bartending is mean and the floor is dirty. However, upon further inspection, it becomes clear that this bar is much different from any bar in the States. At the back, there is a very small, crowded room that is filled with people from all over the world, all watching intensely at one single thing. The Flamenco dancer. The way that she moves her body, stomping her feet and swinging her hips to the beat of the drum, is the reason that she is the most mesmerizing woman who I have ever seen in my life. Her red puffy dress bounces with every stomp of her foot. Her forehead shines from the heat of the room. She is beautiful. She dances until midnight, and when she is finished there is a roar of applause.
It is because of this that I love Barcelona. The culture that exists throughout the city is unmatched by anywhere in the world. Barcelona truly is the city that never sleeps.
