The beauty of of Bolivia lies in its nature. From the mountains in Salar de Uyuni to the shores of Lake Titicaca, Bolivia is a country filled with wonder and enjoyment. The scenic beauty that lies just several minutes outside of the many cities in Bolivia is awe inspiring. In addition, the sheer difference between the many landscapes the exist in Bolivia means that no one can ever grow bored incredible scenery.
Tiquipaya:
Located just 45 minutes outside of Cochabamba in the northern mountains exist a beautiful trail that leads to waterfalls filled with clean water that are excellent for spending the day sitting in the water and relaxing under the cool waterfalls. The beauty of these mountains is that they are so close to the city that they provide a pleasant escape from the honking horns, dirty streets and disgusting air that exists in the city.
Salar de Uyuni:
15 minutes outside of the city of Uyuni exists one of the most impressive landscapes in all of South America: The Uyuni Salt Flats. For the majority of the year Uyuni looks like a vast salt desert. However, during the rainy season a sheet of water covers the ground creating a reflective surface over the entire area. If that isn’t enough to impress the average tourist, slightly further than the salt flats lie beautiful lakes, hot springs, and geysers which also help to contribute to the incredible beauty that is Salar de Uyuni.
Villa Tunari:
Just four hours outside of the moderately warm climate of Cochabamba lies Villa Tunari. Its tropical climate and heavy rainfall allow for many exotic plants to grow freely. In addition, the mountains are drastically different from that which exist in the rest of Bolivia. The vast forest that covers the area is strangely similar to that which exist in Peru on the road to Machu Picchu. In addition, the many rivers and beautiful forestry that exist in Villa Tunari allow for many animals such as monkeys and tropical birds to roam freely in and around the city.
Lake Titicaca and La Isla del Sol:
Located on the northern border of Bolivia, Lake Titicaca is a beautiful lake which is surrounded by beautiful mountains and the incredible city of Copacabana. Inside of the lake exists La Isla del Sol, a beautiful island which contains old Incan ruins and many trails for hiking. Furthermore, the southern end of the island points perfectly at the Andes mountains and on a clear night it provides for a beautiful view from the hostal windows. Lake Titicaca also has some of the most delicious trout in all of South America.
Toro Toro:
Toro Toro is a fantastic place to visit if you want a plethora of activities to do in the same place. From hiking in canyons to swimming under waterfalls to squeezing through crevices inside caves, Toro Toro is the one stop shop for all of your outdoor activities. In addition, due to soft ground and years of erosion, the mountains of Toro Toro take a unique slanted shape that can’t be found anywhere else in Bolivia. Plus you have the added benefit of getting to see dinosaur footprints.
